Iron Man (2008)

Rating: 7/10
Runtime 126 minutes

"Iron Man" initiated the Marvel Universe, and frankly, it reigns supreme among the rest.

Robert Downey Jr, portraying Tony Stark, embodies a character that is cool, irreverent, quirky, and wry in all the most appealing ways. There is a palpable chemistry between him and Gwyneth Paltrow's character, Pepper Potts.

Despite Stark's brilliance and billionaire status, he is not invincible. This is a source of concern for Pepper Potts. His life relies on a pacemaker, powered by untested technology. Moreover, he ventures into space in a mechanized suit that is barely past its prototype stage.

The impression that Stark gives off is that, despite his apparent nonchalance, he is risking his life to make the world a safer place.

In essence, Stark is a compelling action hero precisely because he is vulnerable, yet he maintains an air of invulnerability.

"Not bad, huh?"

You should not watch Iron Man if... Whats the deal with...
Warning: The following may contain spoilers:

What's the deal with "Iron Man"? I mean, here's a guy who spends millions on a suit that can fly, shoot lasers, and withstand bullets, but doesn't even spring for a cup holder. You're telling me Tony Stark can invent a miniaturized arc reactor but he can't enjoy a Frappuccino while saving the world? And what about laundry? You think he’s got a little Tide-to-Go pen in that suit? Because I don’t see a dry cleaning setting on that thing!

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

On the more humorous side of the Marvel Universe, we have "Guardians of The Galaxy". It maintains the combination of humor, action, and character development seen in "Iron Man". The group dynamic will remind you of the teamwork in Iron Man's other movies, but with a little more space adventure thrown into the mix.

The Avengers (2012):

If you loved "Iron Man", then it's a natural step to explore the larger Marvel Universe. In "The Avengers", you get to see Iron Man interact with other iconic Marvel characters like Thor, Hulk, and Captain America. Directed by Joss Whedon, the movie combines thrilling action sequences with sharp dialogue and a touch of humor. It also embraces the overlapping storylines that have become a hallmark of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Doctor Strange (2016):

"Doctor Strange" is another great stop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for fans of "Iron Man". It introduces the characters and concepts of magic and mysticism, adding a new layer to the existing universe. Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a stellar performance as Stephen Strange, a brilliant but egotistical surgeon, who, after a car accident ruins his career, sets out on a journey of healing, and becomes a powerful sorcerer.

Ant-Man (2015):

Similar to "Iron Man", "Ant-Man" is also about a hero with technology-based powers. The story follows Scott Lang, a master thief with the ability to shrink in size while increasing in strength, who must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017):

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is a fun choice for lovers of "Iron Man". What's special about this movie is that it benefits from a mentor/apprentice dynamic going on between Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Peter Parker (Spider-Man). It's the perfect blend of teen comedy and superhero movie set in high school.
