Thelma (2024)

Rating: 7/10
Runtime 97 minutes

Thelma is a bad ass.

She is a really old bad ass. 93 years old is really, really OLD. But she is still a bad ass.

When you are at Thelma's age, when a simple fall is enough to end your life, simply climbing the stairs is bad ass.

So don't expect epic explosions, rousing car chases, fights, shoot ups, or wanton destruction of property.

Well.. actually... do expect all those things, but they are lower octane, and more age appropriate.

The funniest thing about this movie, is not that an old person is a bad ass.

It's that the younger generation are portrayed as timid, weak and ineffective.

People don't simply stop being a bad ass because they get old. They usually just tone it down a little.

The older generation smashed gender stereotypes in the early 1900's, they moved half way around the world only to have their ship torpedoed and sunk, they left cults which cut them off from their entire family and extended support network, they were raised during the great depression, and these are just the stories of my female relatives.

"If I fall, I'm toast. That's why I don't fall."

You should not watch Thelma if... Whats the deal with...
Warning: The following may contain spoilers:

What's the deal with "Thelma"? I mean, have you ever seen a 93-year-old woman who is more determined than fast? It's like watching a tortoise race a hare - you just know who's going to come out on top, as long as the 93 year old tortoise doesn't fall down and break a bone.

But what Thelma lacks in speed, she makes up for in pure dog gone determination and smarts. It's like they say. "Old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance."
