Pitch Black (2000)
A fun, fast-paced, action-packed Sci-Fi movie, keeping character backstories and motivations ambiguous and largely open to interpretation.The film "Pitch Black," released in 2000, opens with an interstellar mission. The crew, along with a dangerous prisoner named Riddick, are all in cryo-sleep. Their ship crash lands on a planet, resulting in the death of the captain and several other sleepers. The command is then assumed by Fry, a character played by Radha Mitchell. The planet orbits within a three-star system, where at least one sun never seems to set until, eventually, it does. The question remains: will the crew turn to Riddick for salvation? And if they do, will he agree to help?
The cinematography of the movie is exceptional, presenting a vibrantly dark, gritty, and menacing atmosphere.
Vin Diesel delivers an exceptional performance of the character Riddick.
What the movie lacks in thought and finesse, it makes up for in visceral action.
